RGV STATE EMPLOYEE CHARITABLE CAMPAIGN SETS RECORD

The Rio Grande Valley State Employee Charitable Campaign, SECC, recently held its 2009 Awards Ceremony at Luby’s in Weslaco, Texas.  The SECC provides state employees the opportunity to support qualified, voluntary, health and human service agencies and to give back to their community through payroll deduction or methods of payment.

The Rio Grande Valley state employees contributed over $286,000 which represents a 14 percent increase over last year; to local, national and international non-profit organizations.  Nineteen state agencies and 4 universities and colleges participated in this Campaign.  The top state agency contributor was South Texas College with over $40,000, Texas State Technical College had the highest percent increase within higher education and Lopez State Jail had the highest percent increase within a state agency.

The state employees contribute to a charitable organization of their choice.  Some of the organizations throughout the Valley that benefit from the state contributions include the United Way of South Texas, Children’s Advocacy Center, American Red Cross, American Diabetes Association, RGV Food Bank, Boys & Girls Clubs, Valley AIDS Council and many other organizations.
